What was your favorite project?
“It’s difficult to pick favorites. I loved the challenge of balancing tight timelines, function, budget and a bit of artistic license when I got the honor of building the lobby bar at the Rex Theater in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.”
“… There was a four-day window of time between bookings to remove the old bar, resurface the floor, move coolers in and out, then assemble the new bar and put the finish on it. The bar has no metal fasteners other than those holding it to the building and a piece or two of trim that was added later. The apron that wraps the bar was salvaged from a roof renovation and was a rafter likely dating back to the original construction of the theater. I wanted to keep the distressed aesthetic of the old board so i just lightly sanded the outer surface to contrast the reliefs.”
He built both bars at the Rex Theater. The bar that he built inside the auditorium is made from a bowling lane that came from the Colonial lanes in Elizabeth Township, Pennsylvania.
“…I wish I had the storage space at the time to grab up a few more lanes. That 19’ by 5’ slab would have made some amazing tables.”
